Privacy policy
What stays on your device, what reaches our server, and who else is involved.
Who is responsible
Smartklik, računalniško programiranje in svetovanje, Marko Lovrić s.p. (“we”) provides Smartklik Video Editor at https://video-editor.smartklik.si. Postal address: Goriče 30, 4204 Golnik, Slovenia. Registration number (matična številka): 7508417000.
Your media and projects
Editing stays on your device. Timeline playback, effects, transcription, and export run in the browser (including on-device models where those features are used). We do not receive a copy of your project media for processing.
The optional AI features are the exception: they send text to an external provider. See AI features below for exactly what is sent.
Project names, thumbnails, and files are stored locally. We cannot recover a project after you clear browser data.
Accounts
You can use the editor without an account. If you register, we store:
- Email address and name you provide
- A hashed password (we do not store the plain password)
- Session tokens so you stay signed in
Account data is kept on our application database (PostgreSQL) hosted with the rest of the app. You can ask us to delete an account by contacting us.
What the server sees
Besides optional account data, our server may process:
- Stock search queries and selected download URLs (Pexels, Pixabay), so we can return results and proxy the file into your browser
- Sound search queries (Freesound)
- IP address and basic request metadata for rate limiting and security, stored temporarily in Redis
- Optional feedback you submit, if that feature is used
- Text you send to an AI feature — an image prompt, a voiceover script, or the caption text being translated or cleaned up — which we forward to the provider and do not store
- A per-day counter of AI runs, keyed to your account id or IP address, stored in Redis so daily limits can be enforced
We do not use this to rebuild your timeline or to train models on your projects.
AI features
AI features are optional and only run when you start them. They are available only if the person operating this deployment has configured a provider key.
What leaves your device: the image prompt you type, the voiceover script you type, and — for caption translation or cleanup — the text of the caption cues. Caption text is produced from your audio by a model running in your browser, so the words spoken in your video reach the provider as text when you use that feature.
What does not leave your device: your video, image, and audio files. Transcription itself runs in your browser; the audio is never uploaded. Caption timings stay local and are never sent.
What we keep: nothing of the generated result. Generated images and voiceovers are returned straight to your browser and are gone when you close the tab unless you add them to your project, which stores them locally. We keep only the daily counter described above.
Providers. Depending on this deployment’s configuration, requests go to OpenAI, Google, or ElevenLabs, each under its own privacy terms and retention periods. Do not put confidential material into an AI prompt or script.
Analytics
We load Databuddy for anonymized visit and error counts. Session tracking, outgoing-link tracking, and interaction attributes are turned off in our configuration. Analytics is disabled in local development.
Cookies and local storage
See the cookie policy for a full list. In short: the editor needs local storage to work; sign-in uses a session cookie; theme preference is stored locally; analytics is a third-party script.
Third-party services
- Hetzner: application hosting in the EU
- Pexels: stock photo and video search (Pexels tab)
- Pixabay: stock photo and video search (Pixabay tab)
- Freesound: sound-effect search and previews
- Databuddy: anonymized analytics
- Hugging Face: on-device model files for optional caption features
- OpenAI, Google, ElevenLabs: AI image, voiceover, and caption features, where the operator has enabled them
- Google Fonts: typefaces used in the interface
When you search or import stock media, those providers receive the query or file request under their own policies.
Your rights
If you are in the EEA, UK, or another region with similar rules, you may ask to access, correct, delete, or export personal data we hold (typically an account email), and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can also lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia (IPRS) or your local authority.
- Clear site data in the browser to remove local projects
- Delete your account by contacting us
- Stop using stock/sound search if you do not want those queries sent
